One of the most important lessons I learned while developing MYJ OrganYKZ was that sometimes you have to create your own solution.

My skin is very sensitive.

Some alcohol-based botanical extracts can feel irritating and uncomfortable on sensitive skin.

So I started asking:

Is there another way to extract the botanicals we want to use?

That question led us to glycerites.

What Is a Glycerite?

A glycerite is a botanical preparation made using glycerin as the extraction medium.

Glycerin is commonly used in skincare because it is a humectant, meaning it helps attract and retain water in the outer layers of the skin.

For us, glycerites became an important part of exploring botanical extraction without relying on alcohol as the primary extraction medium.

Why This Matters to Us

We like control.

We like knowing our numbers.

We like understanding what goes into our formulas.

And we like being able to make formulation decisions based on the product we are trying to create.

That is why Yasmil says:

“We like to calculate and have control in everything that goes in our products.”

That sentence really explains our philosophy.

We don't want to blindly follow a recipe.

We want to understand the recipe.

Handcrafted Doesn't Mean Random

There is sometimes a misconception that handcrafted means mixing ingredients together in a kitchen and hoping for the best.

That is not what we mean.

Handcrafted means being deeply involved in the formulation process.

It means selecting ingredients intentionally.

It means understanding why they are there.

It means calculating.

It means experimenting.

It means learning.

It means improving.

And most importantly, it means caring about the finished product.

Why We Share This

We could simply list “botanical extracts” on a product page.

But that doesn't tell you much.

We want you to know what that actually means.

We want you to understand why we chose glycerites.

We want you to understand why we infuse oils.

We want you to understand why we combine different botanicals.

Because the more you understand, the more you can appreciate what goes into a handcrafted product.
